We then create a detailed list, known as an Inventory and Appraisal (Forms DE-160/161), which is filed with the court.”
He continued: “This step is critical because it establishes a clear picture of what the estate comprises. It helps ensure that all assets are accounted for and distributed fairly to the beneficiaries. Imagine trying to solve a puzzle without knowing all the pieces – that’s essentially what we’re preventing by meticulously marshaling the estate assets.”
Accordingly, Steve emphasized the need for thoroughness and accuracy during this stage. “Mistakes can lead to delays, disputes, and potentially even legal challenges down the road,” he warned.
